Introduction
A perfect manicure doesn’t start with the color of your gel polish — it starts with proper nail preparation. Whether you're working with a client or doing your own nails, mastering the basics is essential for a beautiful and safe result.
Hygiene First
Before you begin, wash your hands thoroughly or disinfect them. This protects both you and your client from harmful bacteria and fungi. Don’t forget to sterilize your tools — this is a non-negotiable step for any professional.
Cuticle Work
Soften the cuticle using remover or a warm soak, then gently push it back with a pusher. If needed, trim the excess skin with cuticle scissors or an e-file. Be very careful not to injure the living skin, as this can lead to infection.
Shaping the Nail
Use a nail file to give the nail the desired shape — square, oval, or almond. For the most natural look, match the nail’s shape to the cuticle line.
